Grantwriting Podcast Supplement
Below are the links I use to search for grants. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but a place to start. Some are more regionally targeted, but if you are not in that region, think of comparable organizations/businesses that may be in your own area and start your search. I will probably update this list again in the early fall of 2018 as grants come and go... Where I feel it's helpful, I've added info on the site/resources. These are in no specific order.
Databases
- US Gov't Database--A bit much, can be very unwieldy, but has some diamonds in the rough.
- Virginia Service Resources-- more user-friendly, for Virginia (of course)
Teacher Travel Grants
- NEH Teacher Travel Grants-- Wide variety of summer programs with stipends from NEH. A long-running program. Due March.
- US Dept of Ed--The US Dept of Ed doesn't offer much, but there's info on Fulbright here
- Edutopia Travel Grants Page-- Edutopia does a good job of keeping this resource page up to date
Classroom Grants
- NEA Foundation Student Achievement Grants--You must be a member.
- Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom Grant--A good one, but must be in Virginia.
- Edutopia Classroom Grants Page--Kept updated. Varied grants, there's even one for pets in the classroom!
- Whole Foods Garden Grant
- LEGO Grants resource--Some good links, not sure how well they're kept up-to-date.
- Grants for Teachers-- A mixed bag but has some gems.
- ALA Grant Resource--Good list, what else would you expect from the American Library Association?
- Teachers Count Grant List-- Name says it all.
- Get Ed Funding-- A searchable database, with mostly classroom grants. Some are state/organization specific.
- NEEF Environmental Science Grant--Funded by Mitsubishi
- Toshiba Grant--Very good grant, we received one at
- Century Link-- Must be in one of their service areas
- Charlottesville Area Grants-- Very specific. Only in Charlottesville area.
- Arts in the West-- I've included this mainly as an example of a very, very specific grant. This is only available to the feeder pattern of Western Albemarle High School in Albemarle County, Virginia.
- Wells Fargo-- Don't know anyone who's gotten it, but here's the link.
- Home Depot-- An example of specific businesses. Lowe's has a grant too, and it's not uncommon for local stores to offer unofficial assistance in the form of goods to local schools. Wal-Mart and Target do this on a monthly basis in my area.
Some things to remember:
When it comes to grants, the links I've included are of varying degrees of formality with the application process, but if you're looking for some small items for a project, ask around your town. A lot of local business owners, as well as general managers of corporate/franchises are willing to help out. They often have family at the schools. I once got fifty free ice cream cone coupons donated to me from just driving through the McDonald's drive thru! They were prizes for an academic project we were doing. Also, I cannot stress enough, that if you are a member of any education organizations, to check their sites for grants pages, you may be surprised, and the cool thing is that since those are only open to members, the submission pool is smaller than some of the larger grants. Good luck!
